Five issues to remember to make your warehouse safe

Warehouse is a place where accidents happen quite often, but there are ways to prevent them. Here are some things to look out for to ensure safety in the warehouse.  The following tips will significantly improve safety when working in the warehouse and will help you avoid all sorts of accidents.

1. Warehouse safety signs

Let us start with the most important one, the warehouse safety signs. These are required by law, so it is important to keep this in mind.  Signs should warn of all potential hazards that a particular employee may encounter. They should also be placed in the most visible location for a person moving around the warehouse.

2. Rack protection

One of the best and most commonly used rack protections are polymer posts mounted on the racks. They prevent damage to the racking and the forklift during collisions. The force of the impact will be dampened by the mounted post. This type of protection is very important when the aisles between shelves are small. In this case, erecting metal barriers takes up extra space, which will lead to more accidents. A trolley travelling in the aisle will often run over the anchors, rub against the guards and damage them.

Advantages of bumpers:

– very quick assembly

 – removal of the bumper leaves no visible trace on the warehouse floor.

– fully recyclable

– the material is resistant to corrosion and most chemicals

3. Order in the warehouse

Safety is also influenced by the arrangement of products in the warehouse. When stacking goods, make sure that they stand stably and do not protrude beyond the edges of the racking. In this way you minimise the risk of accidents but also damage to goods.

4. Lighting

In a warehouse that has no windows and daylight is not available, adequate lighting is important. This will improve the safety of employees and make it easier to move around the warehouse. Lighting must always be chosen according to the individual requirements of the workplace.

5. Team training

It is necessary to provide training to the workers in occupational safety and health, but also in the instructions for the machinery, so that they are aware of the hazards that may be encountered during their work, and so that they know how to deal with situations that may endanger their safety.
